The Little Things newsletter will be taking a pause from 5 May 2022, while I go on maternity leave.

Since becoming a mother I’ve realised that alongside the big concerns (you know, the small matter of keeping your child alive) - there is another type of worry that can play on a parent’s mind in the wee hours.

Seemingly silly issues — like how to cut tiny nails without accidentally lopping off a fingertip — have the power to niggle at the sleep-deprived mind to such an extent that I have often found myself sat up in bed at four in the morning, fruitlessly Googling such pressing issues as how to prevent dribble rash.

These are the questions that feel too trivial to bother your GP about; the day-to-day dilemmas that aren’t the focus of most parenting manuals, because you should just know how to do these things, right?

The truth is, there often isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to these problems. But that doesn't mean you're on your own when it comes to figuring out a solution — there is wisdom to be gleaned from the experiences of others.
